The construction and evolution of Beyonce

Crazy In Love

Crazy In Love was Beyonces first solo single from her album Dangerously In Love, released in 2003. It is featuring Jay Z, and this song caused speculations of their relationship. It conforms to the typical stereotypes of a music video with a female star i.e dance routines, various outfits and she is overly sexualised. Due to the title Crazy in Love, her dance moves are also quite crazy.

Deja Vu

Deja Vu is the lead single of Beyonce's second album B'day, released in 2006. It is similar to Crazy In Love in the sense that she is in various outfits that flaunt her body. It is also featuring Jay Z; by now their relationship had been confirmed. Because of this it has been suggested that the song was dedicated to him. Her dance moves are quite crazy, which is similar to Crazy In Love.  This is because the message behind both videos is that she really loves her partner and needs them.

Single Ladies

If I Were A Boy

Single Ladies and If I Were A Boy are the lead singles of Beyonce's I Am Sasha Fierce album. This album is where she introduced her alter ego Sasha Fierce. The album has two  sides, for Beyonce and Sasha Fierce. Sasha Fierce is more feisty and independent. Whereas Beyonce is calm and innocent. By doing this she is targeting a wider female audience. This album was released the year she married Jay Z, so the Single Ladies single acts as a reminder to her fans that she is still a supporter of female independence.

Run the World (Girls)

Run the world (Girls) is the lead single from her 2011 album 4. The album was released after she took a 'hiatus in her career' in 2010. During this period she killed her alter ago Sasha Fierce, as she felt she could merge the two personalities into one. The video to this song is a representation of both personalities coming together as it is fierce and agressive but feminine. This song follows the theme of female independence, power and feminism. It also conforms to Goodwins theory of music videos: various dance routines, outfits etc.

XO

XO is the lead single from her self titled album: Beyonce. It was released after the birth of her child Blue Ivy . This was to prove a point that women should not put a hold on their careers after becoming mothers, which is once again a very feminist view. This video is set in a fair ground and it is a very happy and innocent video, celebrating the joy of her new family.
